PHOTOGRAPHING FRENCH TOAST WITH ICE CREAM

Updated: Feb 27, 2021

Chasing the light with one of my favorite breakfast/ snack/comfort food.

The classic French toast topped with some extra helping of melted chocolate ice cream & bananas.

The one thing I miscalculated was how fast the ice cream would melt. The shot I had in mind was with a full dollop of the ice cream but even after setting up the scene beforehand it just didn't work. Made the mistake of placing the ice cream on top of the bread a bit too soon. The next shot of ice cream would be with colored mashed potatoes as a stand-in.

But since I had planned to eat this after, I won't complain.😊

Tasted great by the way, if you must know.

Props:

Plate: Cheap plate bought from the local thrift shop

Spoons and Forks: Bought from the local thrift shop and sanded down to remove reflections

Background: High Res images printed onto 3 mm Foam/Forex Boards

Theme:

Bright and airy scene

Setup Explained:

Since my theme was bright and airy i needed lots of soft light and that's where the diffuser came in. The difference between using a diffuser and not is like night and day. If you look at the images below you will see how the sharp edges of the highlights are cut down once the diffuser is used and it leant it self beautifully into the shot.
